ELL Course Descriptions

These courses develop integrated critical reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English through immersion in a selected theme, challenging academic content and campus- and/or community-based learning. Students participate in group work and connect the content to their own lives, using language in multiple ways.

  • Students successfully completing Level 1 will produce, revise and edit written and oral assignments that demonstrate readiness for Level 2 as determined by departmental assessment processes. Students will demonstrate emerging skill with incorporating sources to develop ideas with purpose, focus and clarity of language.
  • Students successfully completing Level 2 will produce, revise and edit written and oral assignments that demonstrate readiness for Level 3 (or approaching readiness for College English) as determined by departmental assessment processes. Students will demonstrate increasing skill with incorporating sources to develop ideas with purpose, focus and clarity of language.
  • Students successfully completing Level 3 will produce, revise and edit written and oral assignments that demonstrate readiness for College English as determined by departmental assessment processes. Students will demonstrate proficiency with incorporating sources to develop ideas with purpose, focus and clarity of language.
