On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) congratulated high school students who participated in the College’s Dual Enrollment program at an annual celebration in the College’s Health & Wellness Center gymnasium.

dual enrollment advisor and a studentNuri Chandler-Smith, Dean, Academic Support and College Pathway Programs, and Steve Prudent, Director of High School Partnerships & Pathways, welcomed students and their families to the campus, and acknowledged the staff from the College’s partner schools and organizations as well as the members of BHCC’s administration that make BHCC’s Dual Enrollment program possible.

At the event, Marianna Cau, a Charlestown High School senior who immigrated to the United States from Italy four years ago, congratulated her peers and shared her experience with the program. “I am much more confident in myself because of this opportunity,” she said, crediting the program with helping her learn English and preparing her for furthering her education. She will be attending Northeastern University in the fall.

Dual enrollment programs at BHCC allow high school students from Greater Boston area schools to earn high school and college credits simultaneously while gaining familiarity with the college experience.

More than 850 students from more than 50 local high schools participated in dual enrollment courses this year, including Malden High School senior Jimmy Tran, the first graduate of the College’s Dual Enrollment program to receive his associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously. At the event, Dual Enrollment Program Coordinator Gretchen Lahey presented Tran with a Student Achievement Award. Tran will study Biology at Boston University this fall.
