Academic Advising

The Enrollment Departments will be closing at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27.

Advisors within Advising & LifeMap work with students who have applied and been accepted into a degree or certificate program at Bunker Hill Community College.

New Students

New students are students who are new to Bunker Hill Community College. This includes students who are enrolling in college for the first time, entering a degree or certificate program after participating in dual enrollment, and students transferring from other colleges.

To meet with an advisor, all new students must complete online Orientation and attend a New Student Group Advising session. Before signing up for a new student group advising session, check your account for test scores you will need to complete placement testing or submit the correct document for a placement waiver. More information about placement can be found here.

Who is my assigned advisor?

New students who have completed their new student orientation and attended group advising, will be able to schedule a 1:1 appointment with their assigned advisor.

For academic advising and assistance with course registration, returning students should make an appointment with their assigned advisor.

If your assigned advisor is not available, you can use virtual and on campus advising services in Advising & LifeMap.

Virtual Advising Options

  • Chat in Self-Service with an advisor, Monday & Tuesday 12-6 p.m., Wednesday & Thursday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 12-4 p.m.

  • Advising services are also available on the Chelsea Campus.

Faculty and Academic Department Advisors

  • Students who have completed one semester of a certificate program or who have earned 30 college credits are assigned to either a specific faculty member of an academic department. When assigned to a specific faculty member, students can find their advisor’s contact information in the college directory. Students who are assigned to an academic department can find their advisor’s contact information on the academic departments page.

Pathway Coaching

Pathway coaches serve as academic, career and transfer advisors who are assigned to students enrolled in degree and certificate programs by pathway. In the first semester of study, pathway coaches work with students to develop Financial-Academic-Career (FAC) plans that lead to the achievement of academic and career goals. Pathway coaches help students register for courses and research career and transfer options. Pathway coaches also help students locate resources and stay connected to BHCC by engaging students in LifeMap activities.

Fall 2023: Continuing students that are assigned a Pathway coach should attend a group advising session. During this group session, Pathway coaches will be available to assist you with course planning and registration for Spring 2024. To sign up for a session, please use the specific Pathway links below.

Success Coaching

Success Coaches are advisors who work with students in Academic English Language Learning (AELL) classes. Success coaches are at BHCC to help students succeed in college. Although success coaches are not assigned advisors, they help students in AELL classes achieve their goals at BHCC and beyond. You can ask a success coach questions about your program of study, how to pick future courses, and help you register for classes. Success coaches can also assist you with career exploration and transfer planning.
