Welcome to the Visual & Media Arts Department
The Visual and Media Arts Department provides an integrated learning environment to help students develop their creative potential and study the aesthetics, materials, and methods of effective visual communication, combining theoretical elements with practical experience and up-to-date technologies. The Visual and Media Arts Programs offers associate degrees in Visual Design, Studio Arts, and Integrated Media.

If you choose to Self-advise please click on Degrees and Certificates from the menu and follow the Curriculum Maps for your selected degree, there you will find the recommended sequence of courses that should be taken every semester.
Notes: “Studio Art” is a common term for practices related to careers in illustration, animation, painting, drawing, and so on. “Visual Design” is an industry term for “Graphic Design”.
Academic advising by VMA faculty
VMA Faculty Advisors are practicing artist who are experts in their field and provide information to students seeking to pursue a career in the visual Arts. Faculty advisors help guide students through their academic career at BHCC by helping students make course selections and answer any questions about the VMA Department. VMA faculty can serve as a mentor and advocate during throughout a student’s academic experience at BHCC.

Christina Hannon joined the Advising & LifeMap team in March 2019. She is a Success Coach/Career Advisor who helps new and continuing students plan for academic success while looking towards the future. Christina can help students plan classes, explore programs, and research careers.
