Success Coach & Transfer Counselor
Brian advises students who want to transfer from Bunker Hill Community College to a four-year college or university. Students should contact Brian for anything related to planning, exploring, applying and deciding on colleges. Among many things that can be addressed, Brian can help students: apply to colleges, plan transferable courses, search for and connect with colleges, better their chances of acceptance, search for scholarships, understand MassTransfer, Commonwealth Commitment and the Common Application, and answer any other questions. Margaret O. Rubino
Coordinator of Transfer, BHCC Alumna
Margaret provides students with the tools to research and complete applications to 4-year colleges and universities. She organizes visits with representatives from partner colleges and universities to visit BHCC each semester as well as organize the annual College Transfer Fairs. Through these individual visits and the fairs she helps connect students with representatives to help facilitate a smooth transition to a four-year institution. Margaret also processes transfer credit for domestic and international students. Margaret is available to meet with students who wish to discuss the transcript appeals process. Rebecca manages the TransferologyTM database and seek ways to use technology to improve the student transfer experience. Rebecca works with academic departments to determine course transferability and coordinate the development of transfer pathways with other colleges and universities. In addition to supporting general transfer advising and workshops, Becca coordinates our partnership with UMass Boston, and advises Liberal Arts majors who want to transfer into Psychology or Social Sciences at UMass Boston. After you register, you will receive an email with a web-link you can use to access and participate in the workshop at the designated date and time. In order to participate in a virtual transfer workshop, you will need a computer device with a microphone and access to the internet. TRANSFER 101 (Recommended for students with 0-30 credits)
This workshop will focus on the first two stages of transferring: Planning and Exploring. Students will receive an overview of statewide transfer programs and incentives, how to transfer credits, searching for colleges, and other resources to clarify the transfer process. Recommended for students who are learning about transferring for the first time. It’s never too early to begin thinking about transfer!
TRANSFER 102/COMMON APPLICATION (Recommended for students with 30-60 credits)
Are you getting close to graduating? This workshop will focus on the final two stages of transferring: Applying and Deciding. Recommended for students who have attended Transfer 101 Workshop. Topics that will be covered include: applying to four-year colleges and making informed decisions on which colleges to attend, requesting letters of recommendations, writing your transfer essays, and using the Common Application.
COMMONWEALTH COMMITMENT (Recommended for students with less than 15 credits)
Through the Commonwealth Commitment, you could lower the cost of your bachelor's degree by as much as 49% by completing your Associate’s degree at BHCC and transferring to one of Massachusetts’ State Universities. This workshop will discuss the requirements for participating in and completing the Commonwealth Commitment program.
PREPARE FOR THE TRANSFER FAIR
This workshop will prepare students to have the best possible experience at BHCC’s Transfer Fair. Topics include questions to ask transfer admissions counselors, making good first impressions, and how to make the best use of the Fair.
UMASS BOSTON TRANSFER APPLICATION DAY
Are you applying to UMass Boston for Fall 2020? The UMB Transfer Counselor will guide students through the application and answer questions about credit transfer. Students who attend will not be required to pay an Application fee or submit an essay on the application.
TRANSFER PATHWAYS TO UMASS BOSTON (Recommended for students with 0-30 credits)
This workshop is for students who may be interested in transferring to UMass Boston after completing their Associate’s Degree at BHCC. Topics include pathways for Liberal Arts majors, Mass Transfer, using Transferology, and UMass Boston’s foreign language, quantitative reasoning, and other requirements.
Virtual College Visits
Throughout the academic year, admission representatives from colleges and universities visit the BHCC campus to recruit students and answer questions. However, during this time of remote learning we have moved to a virtual meeting format using WebEx. This platform will give students the opportunity to meet with an admission representative from a bachelor degree granting college or university to ask questions about their transfer admission process and majors. Each semester BHCC hosts Admissions representatives from over 40 colleges and universities on our Charlestown campus. This is your opportunity to collect information and ask questions from a number of colleges all in one place. Transfer Fair dates will be posted on the Transfer Workshops & Visiting College calendar on this page. After the date of the Transfer Fair is announced, please review our Getting Ready for the Transfer Fair and the list of anticipated colleges before attending.
