On April 11, 2019, the BHCC gymnasium became a showcase for BHCC Students, Scholars and Stars. The annual Foundation gala welcomed more than 100 guests and raised more than $213,000 for scholarships designed to cover financial need not met by federal or state grants. Ten scholarship students who will be graduating this year attended the gala and four spoke to guests about their struggles to get to college and their subsequent accomplishments. In addition to the scholars, the evening paid tribute to BHCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality students, and musicians and singers from the Performing Arts Department. Culinary Arts Department students prepared the gourmet cuisine, which was served by students in the Hospitality Department, who also made the gym sparkle with exquisite decorations. The BHCC Jazz Ensemble provided fantastic music and the BHCC Choir wowed the audience with a rendition of “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to be Free” (Billy Taylor, Dick Dallas, arranged by Pete Churchill). Since 2014, through funds raised at the annual galas, 150 students have received scholarships totaling nearly $1.2 million.
The Foundation wishes to thank all donors and sponsors, most especially The TJX Companies, our Presenting Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year.
