Are you brand new* to Bunker Hill Community College and ready to take Academic English Language Learning courses? Here are your next steps:
- Apply to Bunker Hill Community College. Your online Admissions Dashboard will post your Acceptance Letter with a BHCC ID number, username, and password.
- With your new BHCC ID number, take the Guided Self Placement Survey** and choose the best level of Academic English Language Learning for you.
ELL 101 begins at an intermediate level of academic English. Students in all levels read, write about, and discuss college-level texts in English. The Guided Self Placement Survey includes sample assignments, readings, and student writings for each level to help you decide where to start.
- Follow steps in the New Student Checklist to plan your finances, complete virtual student orientation, and register for your courses.
- Need help? See our Frequently Asked Questions or contact Vivian Lin, Academic Coordinator, at vivian.lin@bhcc.edu or 617-336-5088.
*I-20 and F-1 visa seekers, apply with BHCC’s International Center: https://www.bhcc.edu/internationalcenter/
**Students from BHCC’s Basic English Language Learning (BELL) and Intensive English Programs continue by agreement to Academic ELL 101 without taking the Guided Self Placement Survey. Check with your instructor about opportunities to accelerate to a higher level of Academic ELL.
