BHCC Dedicates 48,000-Square-Foot Health & Wellness Center

Monday, March 22, 2010

Bunker Hill Community College will dedicate a new Health & Wellness Center on Tuesday, March 23, at 11 a.m., BHCC President Mary L. Fifield announced today. Representing the Commonwealth at the event will be Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, State Representative Eugene L. O’Flaherty, Division of Capital Asset Management Commissioner David B. Perini, and Secretary of Education Paul Reville. Chair of the BHCC Board of Trustees Jeanne-Marie Boylan will officiate.

The Health & Wellness Center, a two-story structure, houses state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories supporting students majoring in nurse education and health professions, as well as the College’s first gymnasium and a fitness center.  The building is expected to earn a LEED Gold designation from the U.S. Green Building Council, which sets the nationally accepted benchmarks for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

The dedication of the structure comes at a moment when enrollment at the College is at an all-time high, with 11,700 students. Development of a new Health & Wellness Center reflects Bunker Hill Community College’s commitment to meeting Greater Boston’s workforce needs in healthcare, a key component of the regional economy, as well as to serving the increasing number of students seeking higher education opportunities in Massachusetts.
