Bunker Hill Community College Among Top Veteran-Friendly Colleges/Universities

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Bunker Hill Community College has been named to the list of top Military Friendly Schools by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The list singles out the colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Military Friendly LogoBHCC was cited by Victory Media for its accessible and welcoming Veterans Center -- which was established in 2010 – as well as the center’s counseling and enrollment services and the resources made available to veterans.

For the last five years, Victory Media has conducted a data-driven survey of the more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for Veterans Administration tuition funding; the top 20 percent are honored on the Military Friendly Schools list.

BHCC currently enrolls about 529 military and veteran students; about 67 percent of them study full time. Since 2010, the veteran population has increased about 124 percent.

“We are tracking continued growth this year and will expand services to meet the needs of our student veterans attending BHCC,” said Misty D. Kemp, Director of the BHCC Veterans Center. “Externally, the BHCC Veterans Center staff continues to foster and maintain strong, positive connections with our community organizations.”

The Military Friendly Schools website, http://militaryfriendly.com/schools/, features the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school for their needs.

“Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools shows BHCC’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, vice president at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran.
