Bunker Hill Community College Recertified as a "Leader College" for Student Completion

Thursday, September 25, 2014

Bunker Hill Community College has won recertification as a Leader College by Achieving the Dream, a national nonprofit dedicated to helping community college students succeed. BHCC is one of 16 institutions nationwide to win such designation for demonstrating sustained improvement and accomplishments on key student achievement indicators. “It is an honor for Bunker Hill Community College to be recertified as an Achieving the Dream Leader College,” said BHCC President Pam Y. Eddinger. “We value our role in the National Reform Network, both as a learning college as well as an advocate for continuous improvement through evidence-based practices and broad engagement.”

Leader Colleges demonstrate how data can inform policy and practice to help community college students achieve their goals. BHCC was first designated as a Leader College in 2011. “The work of improving student success is critically important to our education and economy,” said Carol Lincoln, Achieving the Dream Senior Vice President. “Bunker Hill Community College deserves recognition for its relentless efforts and promising achievements.”

Achieving the Dream, which recertifies Leader Colleges every three years, involves 200 institutions in 34 states and the District of Columbia, helping nearly 4 million students. The program focuses on creating a “culture of evidence” on community college campuses in which data collection and analysis drive efforts to identify problems that prevent students from succeeding–particularly low-income students and students of color—and develop programs to help students stay in school and receive a certificate or diploma or transfer to a four-year institution.
