Bunker Hill Community College Student Activities Coordinator Honored

Coordinator of Student Activities Paul Moda has received the 2015 Continued Excellence Award for Advisors from the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society. Moda has served as advisor to Alpha Kappa Mu, Bunker Hill Community College’s chapter of PTK, since 2002.
Moda was selected by a panel of judges from among 45 nominees worldwide. He received a commemorative medallion and was honored in San Antonio, Texas, at PTK’s annual convention in April. Thirty-one advisors in all were honored.
In receiving the award, Moda commented on the achievements of the College’s honor society. In eight of the last ten years honor society members have placed in the All-USA and All-State Academic Team competitions, which are sponsored by PTK with other organizations. “I’m very proud that the students I have mentored have gained national recognition for their academic excellence, leadership and service. It is an honor to know them, work with them, and to see that Phi Theta Kappa recognizes their success as much as I do.” Moda oversees 552 PTK members on campus.
Moda received the award for making significant contributions to the growth of individual members of the College’s five-star chapter, Alpha Kappa Mu; for serving as the chapter’s advocate on campus; and for encouraging the chapter’s involvement at the local, regional and/or international level. In 2013 Moda received PTK’s Distinguished Advisor Award.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in higher education, with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States and around the world. More than three million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 134,000 students inducted annually.
