Applications currently being accepted to the Electric Power Utility Program

BOSTON (March 6, 2019) –Together with Bunker Hill Community College, Eversource Energy is offering students the chance to join a competitive program that can lead to a rewarding career in the energy industry. Current students in the Electric Power Utility Technology (EPUT) program travel from as far away as New Bedford to attend classes at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), the largest and most affordable community college in Massachusetts. After completing two years of academic, technical, and onsite training, EPUT graduates receive an Associate of Science degree in Electronics Technology and are often presented with employment opportunities as a utility worker with the energy company.

“Our students are committed to creating a brighter future for themselves and their families,” shared Eversource Supervisor of Technical Training Marion Jones. “Graduates often go on to find successful careers in energy, with 98% of them finding employment at Eversource. Upon completion of the EPUT program, students have the opportunity to make valuable contributions to the utility industry and to the neighborhoods where we work and live.”EPUT Students

The EPUT program is offered in partnership with the Local 369 Utility Workers Union and the Local 12004 United Steelworkers Union. The courses include everything from algebra and physics to college writing and engineering. The combination of classroom work, field experience, and lab work prepares students for a successful future.

“For our students who are enrolled in the EPUT program, the opportunities are endless,” said Dean of Professional Studies at BHCC, Michelle Elias Bloomer. “We’re proud to connect our students to a program that will further their education and lead to a fulfilling career in the energy industry.”

While the educational and career opportunities are the focus, students in their first year of the program were pleasantly surprised to find a real sense of community in the classroom.

“We all have our have our own set of strengths and we work together to help each other succeed,” shared current EPUT student, Victor Galeas. “This is the opportunity I’ve been searching for; to further my education and work towards a career as an Underground Lineworker.”

The EPUT program is currently accepting applications through March 29, 2019 for classes that begin in September 2019.
