On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, Governor Charlie Baker delivered $1.15M in competitive grants in Higher Education Innovation Fund grants to help the public campuses working together to accelerate change by increasing college-going and college completion rates of students of color, low-income students and those who are first in their families to attend college.
BHCC received $200K in funding to develop a partnership with the University of Massachusetts Boston to expand the groundbreaking work of the College’s Center for Equity and Cultural Wealth to support student diversity through the creation of a joint advising and coaching team comprised of faculty from both institutions and by identifying affinity groups as a strategy to support students as they transition from BHCC to UMass Boston. They will also work together to align career readiness outcomes for students and develop data-sharing protocols to analyze efforts to close achievement and opportunity gaps.
