Events this week promote pathways into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields
October 16-20 is STEM week at Bunker Hill Community College, part of a Commonwealth-wide celebration organized by the Executive Office of Education and the STEM Advisory Council in partnership with the state’s Nine Regional STEM Networks. STEM Week is a statewide effort to boost the interest, awareness, and ability of all students to see themselves in STEM opportunities. Young women, students of color, English language learners, and students with disabilities continue to be underrepresented in STEM fields yet make up a larger percentage of the overall workforce.
“STEM week is a great opportunity for students who think they might be interested in pursuing a STEM career or who have studied STEM subject areas but don’t know how they fit into the field to really connect, learn and plan for a future in these dynamic industries,” said BHCC STEM Coordinator Suman Mukherjee.
The week begins on Tuesday, October 17, with a STEM Club Lunch and Learn, which will include a Q&A with Haley & Aldrich, an architecture and engineering firm, and Professional Women in Construction, an organization that promotes careers for women in construction. It continues Wednesday with an Electrical Engineering Open Lab on the Charlestown Campus, an information session with Sanofi, a Cambridge-based life sciences company, and finally, on Thursday, with a session on quantum computing with Michał Stęchły from PsiQuantum company.
STEM week events are open to all students, not only those already taking STEM courses.
