On Friday, March 29, in Houston, Texas, Bunker Hill Community College received the 2024 SUCCESS Institutional Leadership Award at an inaugural SUCCESS Awards Ceremony hosted by TheDream.US, the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, and Immigrants Rising.
The 2024 SUCCESS Institutional Leadership Award was presented to Bunker Hill Community College for its exemplary commitment to serving immigrant students. BHCC established an immigrant services office and implemented new infrastructure tailored to support undocumented students. BHCC’s efforts played a crucial role in the successful campaign to expand in-state tuition and financial aid to undocumented students in Massachusetts. BHCC remains dedicated to improving undocumented students' access, equity, retention, and graduation rates.
“It was an honor to be acknowledged alongside incredible institutions supporting undocumented students nationwide,” said Director of Immigrant Student Support Services Renata Mauriz. “It’s essential for college leaders to get involved in advocacy efforts and push for legislative change. Providing access to in-state tuition and state financial aid means that hundreds of our current undocumented students will achieve their educational dreams without constant financial barriers.”
