BHCC Professor Mark Popeney Brings Music and Psychology to Life in New Podcast Series
Wednesday, September 11, 2024
This fall, Professor Mark Popeney, Chair of the Performing Arts Department, is stepping beyond the classroom and into the world of podcasting with his exciting new series, Nevermind the Music. Created in collaboration with his colleague and friend, Nichole Vatcher, the podcast is a deep dive into the songs you love and why you love them, delivered weekly for music lovers, pop culture enthusiasts, and psychology buffs alike. The series launched on September 10, 2024, and continues through at least September 2025, with 54 episodes in total.
Professor Popeney's podcast was born during his Spring 2024 sabbatical, during which he dove deep into exploring the intersection of popular music and the human mind. While Nevermind the Music's core focus lies in dissecting popular music, its direction is far more ambitious. Each episode discusses the psychological aspects of music and pop culture and how these elements shape society.
Popeney’s partner in this endeavor, Nichole Vatcher, adds expertise to the discussions. Vatcher, a former adjunct faculty member from the Behavioral Science Department at BHCC and current psychology professor at Suffolk University, brings her knowledge of human behavior and the mind into every conversation. The result is an engaging, often humorous dialogue between two friends who take listeners on a fascinating journey through melodies and mindsets.
Nevermind the Music will be available on multiple platforms, with Apple Podcasts and Spotify being the primary outlets. Whether you're a fan of pop culture or intrigued by how the mind engages with music, this podcast offers something for everyone.
