Selective Admission Program Information

Bunker Hill Community College offers a variety of selective admission programs at our Charlestown and Chelsea Campuses. Selective admission programs require students to complete select prerequisite courses and/or meet other requirements before you are eligible for admission. If you are interested in a selective program, please view the additional requirements below. The requirements will be explained in detail at one of our information sessions, which are held throughout the year for most programs. Please contact admissions with any additional questions and to find out more information about the application process by emailing admissions@bhcc.edu.

You may only apply to one selective program at BHCC per admissions cycle.

Cardiac Sonography

  • If you graduated High School from outside of the United States, please submit the original and translated documentation of High School
  • Attend a mandatory Medical Imaging information session. Register here!
    • Currently all information sessions are held virtually (online)
  • Completion of any three credit College level Algebra or Statistics course
  • Completion of one semester of College level Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab
    • Course must have been taken within the last 10 years to be considered for admission
  • Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS VII)
    • The TEAS exam must be completed in person.
    • Take the TEAS VII test within ONE YEAR of the application deadline (30 days between attempts)
    • Applicants must score a minimum of 47.6% on Reading, 47.6% on Math, 47.6% on English/language, and 60% on Science
    • The highest scores in each section of the first two attempts will be considered
    • All applicants are required to have official transcripts of all ATI test attempts sent directly to BHCC from ATI Testing by the application deadline
    • TEAS scores are valid only if taken within one year prior to the application deadline; scores older than one year will not be accepted.
  • If accepted into the program, and students do not have a college physics course, with a grade of C or higher completed, students will need to complete BHCC’s MIG-111 – Imaging Technology I the summer prior to the start of the program. MIG-111 is offered online over the summer only to accepted students.
  • If accepted into the program, as a prerequisite for a clinical placement or internship, this program requires that all students must undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check and a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) check.   • An active Social Security Number (SSN) is mandatory to participate in the clinicals for the BHCC nursing program. Please be aware that an SSN is also a strict requirement for maintaining a nursing license in the state of Massachusetts. Without an SSN, students will not be eligible to complete clinical placements or obtain licensure.

Surgical Technology Option 

Start Term Available: Fall Start - September 2026

These requirements must be completed prior to submitting an application to the Surgical Technology Option program

  • Submit proof of high school completion (final high school transcript, copy of a diploma, or GED/HiSet scores)
  • Attend a Health Careers Information Session
  • Complete the  Accuplacer English placement test and place higher than ENG-095, Writing Skills II or the course with a grade of C or higher
  • Complete the math placement test and place higher than MAT 097, Foundations of Algebra or complete the course with a grade of C or higher
  • Complete BIO 108 (Human Biology with lab) and earn a grade of C or higher.
    Alternatively, BIO 105 or BIO 195 will also fulfill this requirement, provided you earn a grade of C or higher.
  • All Science courses must be 10 years prior to first day of class.
