Each program begins in September. However, prerequisite courses and general education courses may be completed in advance.
Surgical Technology courses are offered during the day and Sterile Processing and Distribution Management courses are offered in the evening but has a weekday clinical internship. Internships for each of the programs are primarily on during the daytime and on weekdays.
Surgical Technology requires a minimum of 120 cases in a variety of services. Sterile Processing and Distribution Management minimum of 200 hours of internship that may be completed in two semesters (approximately 114 hours in both fall and spring semesters) or three semesters (90 hours in both fall and spring semesters and 48 hours in the summer semester).
Students are placed in a variety of area hospitals. You cannot request a clinical site.
Yes, graduates of each of the programs are eligible to apply to take the certification exam.
Each of the Surgical Technology programs assists students with writing their resumes. Furthermore, students are also directed toward sites with job openings by the program faculty. Additional job search assistance may be obtained in the Career Center at the Charlestown Campus.
