About the Program
Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is now an approved provider for the SNAP Path to Work program (also known as SNAP Employment & Training – SNAP E&T).
This is a free workforce training program for SNAP participants, offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).
Along with your training, you will receive wrap-around services such as academic advising, career coaching, and job search support — all designed to help you succeed in today’s job market.
Who Can Apply
- Individuals eligible to receive SNAP benefits through the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (SNAP is, by definition, a non-cash benefit)
- Applicants cannot receive TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), which is a cash benefit
- Must already be receiving SNAP benefits at the time they start the program — eligibility is confirmed prior to enrollment
- No tuition cost for eligible participants

Programs Available at BHCC
Transition to College
Designed for students currently or previously enrolled in an adult education program, the BHCC’s Transitions to College Program is a yearlong program funded by the Department of Education. TCP enables students to enroll in college-level courses by learning the essential skills needed to be successful students.
- Length: 1 academic year
- Cost: Free; textbooks and materials provided
- Sample courses:
- Fall Semester (up to 12 credits): HUM 120-TC, CIT-110-TC
- Spring Semester (up to 15 credits): courses in your major and two courses of your choice covered by vouchers
- Summer Semester (optional): MAT093, ELL102, or ELL103
TCP staff connect students to a wide range of academic and social resources on campus, including the Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC), Library & Learning Commons, Counseling, Prevention, and Wellness Center, Commonwealth Honors Program, and Student Activities and Clubs.
Application process:
- Be a current student or graduate of an Adult Basic Education Program (ESOL/HiSET/GED)
- Attend an online TCP Information Session
- Apply to BHCC and choose a program of study
- Take the English and Math placement assessments
- Complete the TCP application form
Medical Interpreter
A 10-week program offered in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital for those fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, or Haitian Creole.
- Training: 60 hours of remote instruction + up to 20 hours of preparation for the NBCMI national certification exam
- Internship: 40 hours at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (required)
- Requirements:
- Pass a language fluency test and oral assessment
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 80% minimum attendance
EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
A 180-hour, 7-credit course for those seeking a career in Emergency Medical Services.
- Training includes:
- Basic patient care and assessment
- Life-saving procedures
- Preparation for the Massachusetts/National Registry EMT Certification Examination
Requirements for certification:
- At least 18 years old
- Able to read, write, and speak English
- Free from physical or mental conditions that would impair EMT duties
- Minimum 80% attendance
