Gain recognition for the skills you learn in courses and co-curricular programs and learn how to present them confidently for career success!
What is a Skill Badge?
A Skill Badge is a record of a learning achievement that can be completed in a short period of time. They are awarded by verified providers who assess the learner’s skills based on defined standards.
Skill Badges at Bunker Hill are granted to students who complete a series or courses with a C grade or higher or who complete certain co-curricular activities. They are automatically awarded to students upon meeting the requirements.
How to Earn a Skill Badge
- Academic Skill Badge: Successfully complete 3 courses (passing with a C grade or higher) designated as a Skill Badge track
- Co-curricular Skill Badge: Successfully complete training and activities that practically apply the skill learned in training for a co-curricular program
Bunker Hill is currently offering the following Skill Badges in a pilot program in Spring 2025, with a plan to expand to more programs in the future.
Academic
Inclusive Communication Practices
Description: The Inclusive Communication Practices Skill Badge validates students’ ability to be effective communicators in diverse workplace settings. By analyzing social categories such as race, gender, class, sexuality, and ability, students learn to tailor messages and communication styles for a variety of audience types. Students gain experience and apply knowledge in communication theory, interpersonal dialogue, and presentation skills.
Courses required:
- COM-110: Intro to Communication
- COM-171: Public Speaking and Professional Communication
- COM-210: Interpersonal Communication
Co-Curricular
ACE Mentor
Description: The ACE Mentors Skill Badge validates students’ skills in mental health support, educational coaching, and career guidance for boosting academic achievement, engagement, and cultural competency among their peers. Mentors use this training to offer in-class support, helping students access campus services and make the most of academic and career planning resources. Participants will also explore equity, cultural wealth, and gain insights on feedback and reflection.
Activities required:
- 11 hours of ACE Mentor training completed in one semester
- 1 semester as an ACE Mentor in a first-year course
Share your achievement with the world digitally
Once you have successfully completed the course series or program to receive your Skill Badge, you will be sent a link from badging provider Credly to access your digital badge. You can share your badge directly from Credly to LinkedIn, X, and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature. Each Credly badge holds information about the Skills Badge(s) you earned, so employers can see the courses/ activities and learning outcomes associated with each Skill Badge.
The Skill Badge program is an initiative of the Humanities to Career (H2C) Program at BHCC. H2C seeks to redesign the College’s Humanities and Liberal Arts (HLA) programs in ways that enhance and expand career preparation for HLA students.
