Career Traits

At BHCC, you can take the Career Coach Assessment, which works to match you with the right work environment based on your interests.  People, careers, and majors are a mix of traits, but may align with some traits more than others.  Learn more about the career traits below. 

Realistic

People with the realistic trait tend to be Do-ers.  They often work in physically demanding careers that involve practical, hands-on, work and straight forward problem solving.  Realistic people tend to like working with things more than people.  Examples of Realistic careers are: architect, roofer, and veterinarian.

At BHCC Cardiac Sonography, Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection & Safety, and Sport Management are some examples of Realistic majors.

Investigative

People with the investigative trait tend to be Thinkers.  They often work in careers that involve abstract problem solving, research, and critical thinking.  Investigative people tend to like working independently more than in groups.  Examples of Investigative careers are: astronomer, economist, and software developer. 

At BHCC Biology, Criminal Justice, Data Analytics, History, and Sociology are some examples of Investigative majors.

Artistic

People with the artistic trait tend to be Creators.  They often wok in careers that involve self-expression, independence, and creativity.  Artistic people tend to like working in a less structured environment more than following set procedures.  Examples of Artistic careers are: costume designer, special effects artist, and video editor. 

At BHCC Communication, Gaming/Artist Track, Global Languages, and Music are some examples of Artistic majors.

Social

People with the social trait tend to be Helpers.  They often work in careers that involve informing, caring for, and helping others through communication.  Social people tend to like working directly with people more than working with things.  Examples of Social careers are: nurse, teacher, and travel guide. 

At BHCC Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Paramedic Services, and Social Work are some examples of Social majors.

Enterprising

People with the enterprising trait tend to be Persuaders.  They often work in careers that involve self-motivation, negotiation, achieving goals, and leading others.  Enterprising people tend to like work that involves taking action more than abstract thinking.  Examples of Enterprising careers are: lawyer, project manager, and real estate agent.

At BHCC Business Transfer, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Management are some examples of Enterprising majors.

Conventional

People with the conventional trait tend to be Organizers.  They often work in careers involving numbers, planning, and a high level of attention to detail.  Conventional people tend to like work that involves following set procedures more than working in an unstructured environment.  Examples of Conventional careers are: administrative assistant, budget analyst, and proofreader.
