Actress Rosie Perez to Speak at Bunker Hill Community College

Award-winning actress, choreographer and AIDS activist Rosie Perez will speak at Bunker Hill Community College on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at 1 p.m. The event, part of the College’s Compelling Conversations speaker series, is free and open to the public, but reservations are required, as space is limited. Nominated for an Academy Award for acting and an Emmy for choreography, Perez is best known for her roles in Do the Right Thing, The Road to Eldorado, White Men Can’t Jump, and Somebody to Love. In addition to her work as a film producer, director and choreographer, Perez has played major roles on the stage, including a starring role in the hit revival of Terrence McNally’s Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.
In February 2010, President Barack Obama appointed Perez to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. Throughout her career Perez has been an activist in a number of causes, especially those related to HIV/AIDS, inner-city youth and Puerto Rican rights.
Past speakers in Bunker Hill Community College’s Compelling Conversations include Sanjay Gupta, Jehan Sadat, Gloria Steinem. Juan Williams, and Bob Woodward.
