Bunker Hill Community College Earns Vision Project Performance Incentive Grant

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) has received a $215,883 grant from a state fund designed to spur innovations and improve educational outcomes in public higher education, the College has announced.

BHCC will use the grant to double the capacity of the College’s Summer Bridge program. The Summer Bridge program enables entering students who need developmental English and/or math coursework to receive intensive instruction during the summer prior to fall enrollment. 

“It is critical that we dramatically expand our services to students,” said BHCC President Pam Y. Eddinger, Ph.D. “The grant’s resources allow us to give our students a leg-up in starting and completing college.”

Created by the legislature in fiscal year 2012, the Vision Project Performance Incentive Fund supports activity on the Commonwealth’s public college and university campuses to advance the Vision Project goals of national leadership in areas such as college participation, college completion, student learning, workforce alignment, preparing citizens and closing achievement gaps. Also funded are collaborations to achieve operational efficiency.

“In many ways, this is higher education’s own ‘Race to the Top,’” said Education Secretary Matt Malone. “A number of these grants are being used to scale up programs that have proven track records. We’re not just throwing money at problems; we are rewarding campuses that have spent money wisely and have results to show for it.”
