Bunker Hill Community College Welcomes New Associate Provost at Chelsea Campus

Alice Murillo has been appointed Associate Provost of Bunker Hill Community College’s Chelsea Campus.
BHCC administrators, faculty and staff welcomed Murillo at receptions on the Charlestown and Chelsea campuses. The 40 attendees at the Chelsea reception included Chelsea City Manager Thomas G. Ambrosino; Executive Director, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Rich Cuthie; Chelsea Councillor At-Large Leo Robinson; Superintendent of Chelsea Public Schools Mary Bourque; and President of Stop and Compare Supermarkets Alberto Calvo.
“Dr. Alice Murillo’s background and experience in higher education will make her a very successful Associate Provost at the Chelsea Campus. I look forward to working with her as
she develops more educational programs and services designed with and for the Chelsea community,” said James F. Canniff, BHCC Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.
Murillo comes to BHCC with extensive academic and administrative experience. She served as Dean and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at City College of San Francisco, and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Diablo Valley College. She has also served as Interim Dean of Academic Affairs at Broward College in Davie, Florida, as well as Interim Dean of its University/College Library and Academic Success Center. With more than ten years of both undergraduate and graduate teaching experience, Murillo was a tenured faculty member at Hartnell College in California and the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus.
Murillo’s work in higher education has been honored with a research fellowship from the Association of Institutional Research and the National Science Foundation as well as the
MESA Administrator Award from the University of California, Office of the President, among other accolades.
Murillo holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University; an M.A.T. from the University of Florida;
and a B.S. in Mathematics from Catholic University of Puerto Rico. She has completed graduate work in mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico and holds a certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education.
Murillo will take part in the upcoming Chelsea Community Open House at the College’s Chelsea Campus at 175 Hawthorne St. in Chelsea, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, January 12 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Special guests at the event will include Massachusetts Higher Education Commissioner Carlos E. Santiago; Chelsea City Manager Thomas G. Ambrosino; Vice President of Cataldo Ambulance Services Dennis R. Cataldo; and Superintendent of Chelsea Public Schools Mary Bourque.
