Upon Completion of this Concentration Graduates will be able to:
- Identify, define, and explore the major concepts of environment processes, problems, and solutions
- Investigate a variety of scientific methods and techniques to study the environment
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills about environmental findings
- Analyze the cultural, ethical, economic, and government policy aspects of current and emerging environmental concerns
Career Outlook
Students majoring in Environmental Science prepare for a variety of entry-level careers in the private, public and non-profit sector involving resource conservation and sustainability. Entry-level careers include environmental monitors, assistants, and technicians.
This program will allow students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities to seek a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or environmental studies. A bachelor’s or graduate degree is required for professional positions in education, outreach, environmental planning, environmental conservation, natural resource management, environmental consulting, environmental monitoring, environmental engineering, hazardous materials, and occupational health and safety.
Employment of environmental scientists and specialists is projected to grow 8 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. Heightened public interest in the hazards facing the environment, as well as increasing demands placed on the environment by population growth, are expected to spur demand for environmental scientists and specialists
