BHCC Volunteers at Boston Living Center in the South End

Active Citizenship

Active citizenship means building stronger, healthier, and safer communities locally, nationally and globally. We all know that making a difference doesn't just happen; it takes a committed group of people to make change effective and possible.

Volunteering

Volunteering produces tangible experiences and opportunities that will help you in the development of your academic, career, and life goals. These particular experiences can be used as stories in your personal statements for college applications or in cover letters when you begin applying for jobs.

In volunteering and committing yourself to service, you become a part of a larger movement to further the opportunities of peace, access and goodwill. So essentially, when you volunteer you are not only giving yourself to the organization and its needs, but you are signifying to others that you value service, and that you care about making a difference in your world.

At BHCC, the Office of Community Engagement hosts a variety of volunteer initiatives; such as Service Months, Jumpstart, Community Work Study, and the BHCC Cares Challenge. These initiatives involve hundreds of BHCC students in direct service to Greater Boston communities and forward the College's mission of promoting civic engagement and leadership. Please find more information on these volunteer programs on the pages here.

Volunteer Workshops

If you are new to volunteering, we recommend that you first attend a Volunteering 101 Workshop. At Volunteering 101 we will help you learn the ins and outs to becoming a volunteer. Once you’ve volunteered awhile with our programs, we have the Volunteering 102 workshop, focused more on how to use your volunteering for professional and personal growth. These workshops are scheduled throughout the semester. See the Upcoming Event calendar to the right for dates and times of upcoming Volunteering Workshops.

Volunteer Interest Form

If you can’t attend a workshop, then fill out this quick Volunteer Interest Form and someone from the Office of Community Engagement will be in touch.
